
Artist’s Talk and Workshop with Alexis Avlamis
Join us on Thursday the 25th of May, at 19.15 for a presentation and a workshop of encaustic art by the painter Alexis Avlamis, in the context of his solo show titled “Transitions”. Alexis will present the ancient encaustic technique, which dates back to the 7th B.C through a contemporary viewpoint. The artist’s talk includes a brief history of encaustic art from antiquity to today, a presentation of contemporary encaustic artworks and images taken during the creative process.
After the talk, a workshop will follow where the participants will have the opportunity to paint with melted wax color on plywood by using brushes, a hotplate and a hot airgun. Moreover, they will experiment with various collage techniques, scraping and incising on the waxy surface, as well as pouring wax on silicone moulds.
